Saturn retrograde calendar

Saturn moves about twelve degrees a year, so its retrogrades come about once a year and each begins a dozen degrees past the last. The loop covers about seven degrees and lasts 138 days, which is 36.4% of the calendar and more than most people assume. Saturn is at opposition in the middle of each one, at its closest to Earth for the year and a touch brighter, though you would need a chart to notice. The 194 periods in the archive vary by only a week, from 134 to 141 days.

Saturn is retrograde 36.4% of the time, so a birth chart with it retrograde is nothing unusual, and astrologers read a natal Saturn retrograde more quietly than a Mercury or Venus one. The transit they take more seriously. Saturn has the unglamorous jobs in their scheme: time, limits, rent, the parts of a promise that outlast the mood you made it in. Retrograde, they say, the audit turns inward. People report re-reading a contract, going back over a decision from the spring, or noticing that a rule they follow is one they made up.

Each is the gap between a period's two stations as the catalogue stores them, floored to the hour, so lengths come out in whole days rather than hours. Nothing here is a rule of thumb; the figures are counted from the stations themselves.
