Jupiter Retrograde Dates
Jupiter spends four months of every thirteen going backward. Each of those stretches from 1900 to 2100, dated to the day and placed to the arc-minute.
As of Sep 8, 2026, Jupiter is not retrograde.
The next Jupiter retrograde starts on in Leo and ends on in Leo, about 121 days.
Highlighted in the table: the next periodJupiter retrograde calendar
Jupiter is retrograde 30.2% of the time. Like every planet outside Earth's orbit it turns back around opposition, when Earth overtakes it on the inside; and because Jupiter itself covers about thirty degrees a year, the overtakes come about every 13 months rather than yearly. Each loop is about ten degrees long and takes between 117 and 124 days, 121 being typical. One retrograde begins a sign and a bit along from the last, so the 184 periods in the archive walk through the zodiac at close to a sign a year.
Each row runs from the station where Jupiter appears to stop and turn back to the one where it turns forward again. These near-term tables are solved from the ephemeris to the second and shown as UTC calendar dates with the degree at each station. An almanac working in local time can put a station a day either side.

Jupiter is the planet astrologers hand the good news to: growth, luck, the invitation. Retrograde, they say, the invitation is deferred and the growth turns inward, which is gentler than it sounds. People describe it as the course they enrolled in coming back round, the trip re-planned, an opinion held for years quietly revised. Nothing shrinks. It just stops arriving from outside for four months and has to be found in the cupboard.
Birthdays fall on retrograde days as often as on any other, so the share above is also, near enough, the share of birth charts with Jupiter retrograde. The natal retrograde calculator checks a date against the same stations.

The archive comes from the shared event catalogue, and I store each station there floored to the hour, so the UTC calendar date is exact but no time of day is shown. It also means a degree here can sit an arc-minute below the same station in the near-term table above, which is solved to the second. Degrees are apparent geocentric ecliptic longitude for the equinox of date, the tropical position an astrologer reads. The catalogue is published under CC BY 4.0. Jupiter retrograde FAQ
When is Jupiter retrograde in 2026?
In 2026, Jupiter is retrograde from Dec 13 to Apr 13, counting in UTC. The calendar above has the full date of each station and the sign and degree it happens at, to the arc-minute. If an almanac you trust says a day earlier or later, it is probably working in local time, and the station fell near midnight.
How long does Jupiter retrograde last?
About 121 days, taking the median of the 184 periods between 1900 and 2100. The shortest ran 117 days and the longest 124. Each is the gap between a period's two stations as the catalogue stores them, floored to the hour, so lengths come out in whole days rather than hours. Nothing here is a rule of thumb; the figures are counted from the stations themselves.
How often does Jupiter go retrograde?
About every 13 months. Sampled at noon UTC on every day from 1900 to 2100, Jupiter is retrograde 30.2% of the time. Birthdays are spread over those same days, so that is also, near enough, the share of birth charts with Jupiter retrograde. That is a lot of the time, and astrologers say less about an outer planet being retrograde in a chart than about Venus or Mars, partly for that reason.
Is Jupiter retrograde right now?
The banner at the top of the page answers that. It is written into the page at build time, then rechecked in your browser against your device's clock, using the station dates the page already carries, so it stays right between rebuilds. It also marks the matching row in the calendar as happening now or next up. It reads your clock and nothing else.
