Privacy Policy

Your birth details are personal. This page says exactly what the site does and does not do with what you type. The short version is that the calculations run on your own device and nothing about your chart is sent to me.

The short version

  • Every calculation runs in your browser. Your birth date, time and place are never sent to a server or stored on one.
  • There is no account to make and no database of birth charts behind the site.
  • The site is served by Cloudflare. Its standard server logs record page requests, not what you type into a calculator.
  • The site carries Google AdSense ads, which use cookies. You can opt out of personalised ads, and this page says how.

Calculations run in your browser

AstroCalcs is a static website with a handful of calculators that run entirely on your device, in JavaScript. When you enter a birth date, time or city, the code in your browser uses it to compute a result, and that is the end of the matter. Nothing is sent to me, nothing is written to a database, and nothing is tied to an identifier. Close the tab and it is gone. I built it this way on purpose; the methodology page goes into how the numbers are made.

What I do not collect

I do not ask you to create an account, and I do not collect your name, your email address or your birth details. I do not sell, rent or share personal information, because there is nothing of that kind here to share. The city search loads a public place-name dataset into your browser and matches what you type there, so I never see your searches either.

Hosting and server logs

The site is served by Cloudflare. Like nearly every web host, Cloudflare's infrastructure processes the standard technical information needed to deliver a page and keep the site up, for example an IP address, a browser type and the URL requested, and it may keep short-lived logs for security and performance. That is ordinary request data and does not include the content of any calculation. It is governed by Cloudflare's privacy policy. I run no analytics of my own.

Cookies and local storage

The calculators do not need cookies to work and set none of their own. If I ever store a preference on your device, say the last city you searched for, it would go in your browser's local storage and stay there; local storage never leaves your browser. The cookies that are set come from the advertising provider described in the next section, and you can clear or block cookies at any time in your browser settings.

Advertising

AstroCalcs is free to use and pays for itself with ads served through Google AdSense. That comes with cookies, and here is what they do:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and to other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and to other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising from many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices.

The advertising cookies are for serving ads and nothing else. They do not receive, and cannot read, the birth details you type into a calculator, because those values stay inside your browser and are never handed to the ad code.

Links to other sites

Some pages link out, to the astronomy library and the place-name dataset the site relies on, among others. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and this policy does not cover them. Read theirs before trusting them, the way you are reading this one.

Children's privacy

AstroCalcs is a general-audience astrology site and is not aimed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and because the calculators run on your device without an account, there is no personal data for me to collect from anyone.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy as the site changes. When I do, the "last updated" date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes appear here rather than in an email, since I have no mailing list and no addresses to send one to.
